About Donna
My mom surprised me one day by relating a whole part of my early childhood I do not remember. She said, “You know, when you were little, we’d know where to find you by the trail of clothes pointing in the direction that you went.” We laughed because as an adult, I still have that need to shake off the encumbrances and explore the world.
I’ve found a means to work and wander, traveling into the wee cracks of the planet. It’s worth the journey and the toil. Nothing brings out the center of a person better than the truth, love and weirdness of fellow people along that way.
Inspiration comes from that coffee shop tucked away behind a bookstore in Dingle, Ireland, snorkle-thirty everyday on San Salvador Island, the back roads of America traced in my Triple A road atlas with a blue highlighter (east/west got a lot of play time, now I need to work on my north/south). Even the inspiration to begin this business came from a road trip with my husband to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Which, by the way, if you are ever on I-70 near Genoa, Colorado, you are hereby compelled to stop in at the Wonder Tower. Do not question. Simply pull over and go in. You will not be sorry you paused to take in some Americana.
The American poet Walt Whitman wrote The Song of the Open Road nearly 150 years ago. An epic poem of exuberance for the people and land, it so matches my heart that I quote his words to welcome you and thank you for stopping in. Here’s to meeting on the open road.
Traveling with me, you find what never tires.
The earth never tires;
The earth is rude, silent, incomprehensible at first—Nature is rude and incomprehensible at first;
Be not discouraged—keep on—there are divine things, well envelop’d;
I swear to you there are divine things more beautiful than words can tell.
